March

Hello families!

March is zooming by! I can be believe we are halfway through the month already. We have been busy in all of our content areas.

We completed our Immigration Unit on February 16 with our Immigration Simulation. All the students made it into America after passing the various medical, mental health and customs examinations! This was a great day and I think the students really learned a lot. I have a huge photo album of pictures I can't wait to share during our April conferences.

We have moved onto our Nutrition Unit in Science. We are learning about what should be on "My Plate", the food groups, how to read our food labels, and much more.

After this unit we will move back into Social Studies for our famous Black Americans unit. Stay tuned for the wax museum that will accompany this unit. This is a must not miss event!

We are diving deeper into fractions in math. Students have begun to compare fractions and learn strategies to figure out which fractions are larger or smaller. We are also talking about measurement! I have begun added multiplication fact practice to the back of the nightly homework. Students should continue to work to be secure in the multiplication facts! Any extra practice will help!

Speaking of homework....your support in completing AND returning the nightly homework is appreciated. The nightly math homework helps to reinforce the skill taught that day. Additionally, spelling homework needs to be returned on the due date. This due date is listed on the spelling list that is sent home after the pretest. Many children are not returning or completing homework. Again, your support is appreciated.

We continue to work on our reading skills! We work on a variety of skills from week to week and lesson to lesson. We work on character traits, sequencing, summarizing, comparing/contrasting, cause and effect, and many more. The students read several stories to work on and practice these skills. Students should continue to read nightly!

Lastly, we are in need of a few items in the classroom. We go through pencils and erasers VERY quickly. Please try and replenish your student's supply. Additionally, glue sticks, clorox wipes and dry erase markers are always needed.

Again...thank you for your support throughout the year! I am looking forward to conferencing with you in April.
