End of the Quarter

Good morning families!

Your student received his/her report card on Friday, along with the most recent data from the Star Reading and Math reports. Let me know if you have any questions about either. Please sign and return the envelope only. The report card and reports are yours to keep!

A green order form for a Music in our Schools t-shirt also went home. We will have a concert on the night of Monday, March 5th. If you would like your child to have a t-shirt, please send back the order form. If you need help with paying for the t-shirt, just reach out via email or indicate so on the form.

We have started our immigration unit and the students are very excited. They are in their family groups and picked their authentic names yesterday. We will begin our journey today. Reminder, the Ellis Island simulation will be held on February 22nd at
9 AM. Look for more information the closer to the event.

Please encourage your student to complete their nightly math and spelling homework. It helps to reinforce the skills learned during that days math lesson.

As always, let me know if you have questions, thoughts or concerns about anything.
Have a great day and rest of your week!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year families!

I hope that everyone had a restful vacation. We are a few weeks away from grades closing (1/19) and report cards going home (1/26). Typically we do not conference at the end of the second quarter but if you have specific questions or would like to, I am happy to meet.

Spelling

We continue to have spelling lists that correspond with our lesson in reading. You will find the list comes home with your student with a test date in the right hand corner. This is also the date the when homework is due. Please encourage your student to practice nightly with their spelling words.

Math

We are currently in the middle of Unit 4 and are working on perimeter and area, along with recognizing polygons and special quadrilaterals. Typically there is nightly math homework. Some students can still use practice with their addition and subtraction facts, as well as multiplication.

Reading

We are working hard during literacy reading new stories, learning new vocabulary words, and analyzing the text in different ways. These ways may include sequencing, cause and effect, story structure, and character analysis. We also do a lot of writing answering our comprehension questions!

Science/Social Studies

We are wrapping up our space unit in science. We will be talking about nutrition and immigration next. Stay tuned for our immigration simulation save the date. It is a must not miss event!

As always, let me know if you have any questions about anything happening in our classroom!
