Happy New Year!

I hope that your family had a restful vacation. The students and I have been together for a few weeks now. I have kept the weekly schedule and class routines intact. As we continue to work together, students may see a few differences in the classroom. Please reach out if you feel your student is having any difficulties or issues with the transition.

As we move into January we will continue to work on our reading comprehension and exploring how we can support our answers with details from the text. I encourage you to read with your student and discuss whatever you are reading. This helps to promote comprehension and understanding. Most students have moved from learning to read and are now reading to learn!

We will finish up our Native American and Biomes units in social studies and science. We will move onto Famous Black Americans and Simple Machines. In math, we will work on geometry. Students are always encouraged to keep working on their math facts. Whether that is addition and subtraction or multiplication.

The weather has finally turned colder! Brrr! Students need to come to school dressed for outside recess. This should include a warm jacket, hats and gloves/mittens. If students wish to play in the snow they must have snowpants and boots.

Lastly, we could use some help replenishing our classroom supplies. We are in need of disinfectant wipes, pencils and pencil toppers. Any contributions are appreciated!

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached via email at jharrington@sau16.org or in the classroom at 775-8880.
