We have made it through our first week! The kids and I have been busy getting to know each other. The students have spent time playing name bingo, interviewing their classmates, and graphing our class birthdays. We played an iSpy game to explore our classroom. Together as a group we created our class rules to help establish a fun, safe and engaging learning environment. The students have spent time learning the class routines, which we will continue to practice for the next few weeks. We have a wonderful class!

Next week we will begin to settle into more routine. The students will begin spelling and math, both will include nightly homework. Students can expect about one page of math per night, which will represent continued practice of our daily lesson. Students will have one page of spelling homework per night. Homework will come home a blue folder, which should be returned daily.

On Wednesday, I sent home information about Scholastic News. Scholastic News is a current events magazine that is utilized in the classroom weekly. The students will read non-fiction stories that fun, engaging, and curriculum based. The school year cost is $6.53 per student. Additionally this cost will include a monthly Science Spin.

Student Council elections will be held next Tuesday. We spoke about the role of the Student Council representative. Students who expressed interest were sent home with information regarding this, as well as the understanding they will need to write a speech that will be read to their classmates.

A few reminders:

Students have snack every morning. Please remember to send a snack in daily. Students can also bring in water bottles that can be refilled at the water fountain.

Lunch money can be sent in daily. Please place money in a sealed envelope or bag and label it with the student's first and last name. Students may also purchase milk or water, when available, when bringing cold lunch.

Thank you for all your generous donations to the class. We are always in need of disinfectant wipes!

I am looking forward to settling in next week and getting to know your children even more. Again, we have a great class full of eager learners!

Have a wonderful long weekend!
Jen
